Educational Consultant, Counsellor
Hi, I’m Jared and I’m looking forward to working with you. This is about you and I’m here to facilitate your journey in counselling and help you make the changes you want in your life. Changes can seem overwhelming, impossible, or difficult at times, but I can provide a safe space to help you to identify and work on whatever issues you may be facing. I hope to be a source of comfort and safety as we navigate the changes you want to make in your life. I feel that authenticity and compassion are the most important traits that a counsellor can have and it’s what I try to bring to each of my sessions.
I have a real passion for education, I have more than 16 years of experience in education in Hong Kong, Korea, and the USA and have helped students from 6 months to 65 years old. I’ve found that the joy and passion of helping a student achieve and helping them believe in themselves translates very well to the commitment I give to my clients in counselling. My goal is to help provide you with the tools, compassion, and mindfulness so you won’t need me anymore. I’m happy to work with clients of any age.
I care about each of my clients. It can be easy to feel like you’re stuck in a pattern of failure or struggle. By learning skills, looking at patterns and trying to understand why things are so difficult for us, we can break the cycle of failure/frustration/disappointment. I try to incorporate counselling skills into my consulting and apply it to the academic frustrations that each client is experiencing so that they can know there is a way for them to succeed.
I try to be a place for compassion, understanding for each person and learner. I want to help them improve their confidence in themselves. The potential in each person is boundless, they just need to believe it and get the skills to unlock it.
We are all struggling, but everyone’s struggle is different and matters. There is no one size fits all approach to therapy and I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques to help my clients with the issues that they are facing. I am drawn to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) because I like the philosophies behind them and the focus on self-acceptance, managing emotions, and values that they have. I also have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT).
I have experience in dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, and relationship issues. I enjoy working with couples as well as individuals. I care about each of my clients and have a special place in my heart for people living with ADHD. I hope to be a place that adults, adolescents, and children with ADHD can find compassion and help them develop techniques and build mindfulness to help make life with ADHD easier for my clients.
I have completed studying for my Masters in Counselling (MoC) from Monash University, Australia and have completed my practicum hours. I am also currently working towards my Linehan Certification for DBT and my Gottman level 1 and 2 certifications for couples. I am constantly learning from my clients and see education as a lifetime pursuit. I look forward to working with you.
I provide counselling and educational consulting services in English and am available in person or online.
