About James:

Supervised Placement Counsellor

James is an Ex-Professional athlete (both Australia and Hong Kong) and Secondary School Teacher, and is currently completing his Master of Counseling through Monash University. Through his sporting career, he has experienced both the highs and lows of being in a high performance environment, and understands how this can challenge a person mentally, physically and emotionally. These experiences have shaped his approach to counseling, with a focus on fostering positive change through building personal identity, self-motivation and resilience. James leverages his experiences of playing professional sport to develop positive relationships with his clients, creating a safe and supportive counselling environment.

He uses different approaches to his counseling, in particular Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy, to provide clients with the tools and knowledge to identify, explore and put into place strategies and techniques that are tailored to individual client needs.

In addition to CBT and IPT, James may use other evidence-based therapies such as Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), depending on the needs and goals of his clients.

Through James’ experience as a secondary school teacher he understands the unique challenges facing teenagers today, including academic and social pressures, family conflicts, and mental health struggles. This experience is invaluable in helping him understand and support young clients in his counselling practice. James is passionate about helping clients from all backgrounds, and strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

James consults in English.
